On grid solar power systems also known as Grid Connect Solar Power Systems generate power as the Sun rays fall on the Solar Panels and the same is wither instantly used else goes back into the grid.
These are do not provide a power backup but generate power and pay you back even when your are away and the house is not in use. These Systems can be of any capacity depending on the roof area available but as a thumb rule require a south facing area of 12 Sqr. Mtr. for a 1 Kw power plant.
IN an On-Grid Solar Power Plant, the DC power generated from SPV panel is converted to AC power using power conditioning unit/Inverter and is fed to the grid either of 440/220 Volt three/single phase line or of 33 kV/11 kV three phase lines depending on the capacity of the system installed at residential, institution/commercial establishment and the regulatory framework specified for respective States.

Net Metering
The grid connected rooftop system can work on net metering basis wherein the beneficiary pays to the Electricity Board on net meter reading basis only. The customer has to apply ot his electrical subdivision for an NOC for installation of On Grid Solar Power Plant. Subesquently the bidirectional meter would be installed by the supplier which would work on Net Metering basis.
